Anthony Child made his first splash in the techno world as DJ Surgeon with the 1995 release of the Surgeon EP, which was quickly endorsed by techno tastemakers of the time and put Birmingham, England, on the electronic-music map. A decade later, Surgeon himself has become one of techno’s foremost tastemakers, releasing tracks on some of the scene’s most well-respected labels, including Soma and Tresor. More than simple “dance music,” his output is a cerebral mix of complex rhythms and rumbling sub-bass riffing. Determined to reinvent the role of the DJ in the new millennium, Surgeon has embraced technologies such as Ableton Live software to transform ordinary deejaying into more of a live performance. He’ll operate in Denver on Thursday, October 6, at Club Moto.
