More than a decade ago, I was thumbing through the classified ads in this very paper, like I'd done at least a thousand times before growing up, hoping to come across an ad for my dream job. By then, it was more out of habit than anything, wishful thinking, if you want to know the truth. I never expected to actually come across an ad for the gig.

But then one day I did. In fact, I came across this very ad in the paper, and after at least a week, maybe more, of self-doubt, hemming and hawing, I managed to muster up the nerve to apply for the job, never expecting to hear anything back. I did, obviously, and now here I am almost eleven years later ready to move on and do something new.

So, yeah, I'm officially retiring. Before that happens, though, let me just say that I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity I've had here. It's been one hell of a thrilling ride to have had the privilege of writing about this town's amazing music scene over the years. I count myself blessed to have met so many incredible musicians and quality people along the way, including all of the unbelievably talented folks I've had the good fortune of working with over the years -- trust, the list is endless all the way around.

But alas, now it's your turn. Maybe this is your dream job? If you've always wanted to write for and edit Backbeat, here's your chance. If you'd like to be considered for the gig, simply send over a note with your resume and five clips of your best writing to [email protected], and one of my esteemed colleagues will get back to you. In the meantime, I'll be around for a few more weeks, and I'm going to help organize the Showcase. So drop me a line and say hey if you feel like it. Otherwise, good luck!
