On Death by Ego, Dyalekt shows not only that he has a keen ear for beats (he produced most of the tracks himself), but also that he has a suitable flow for each sound. On the Davey Boy-produced “Alright,” the Diamond Boiz MC gives himself a little room to explore his rap execution. The concept of death (both literal and figurative) is woven throughout the record in smart ways: Check for the lead single, “Tequila and Lime,” and the Bravo One-assisted “Watch the World” for the perfect balance. Dyalekt sprinkles heavy punchlines throughout his verses, yet sticks to his theme of rebirth and, in some cases, life after death, as is the case with “Alive.” If the MC’s ego, as he raps, “is gonna kill me,” there’s no reason to believe he won’t emerge bigger and better than ever in his resurrection.
