Experience Hendrix

Some guitarists borrow from the Hendrix canon, while others simply absorb his music through osmosis. Either way, there's probably not a guitarist alive who wasn't affected by the music of Jimi Hendrix in some way. Joe Satriani has said that although he can play every one of Hendrix's songs, out of respect, he's spent many years making sure he didn't sound like the man himself. He saw Hendrix's albums as a sort of Holy Grail of guitar music, and says he didn't want to steal Hendrix's licks because they were too sacred. Now Satriani will have a chance to dip into that Holy Grail, along with fellow guitarists Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Hubert Sumlin, Susan Tedeschi, Aerosmith's Brad Whitford and others, for the fourth edition of the Experience Hendrix tour. Former Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox and former Steve Ray Vaughan sideman Chris Layton back up these fine guitarists.
