Ed Marshall has had his hand in music in Denver for the past several years, both as a keen observer of the ebb and flow of music out of this town and as a musician with a penchant for the psychedelic with bands like Stargazer, Into the Ether, Overcasters and Fragments of Divine. His current band, Forests of Azure (due at the Larimer Lounge on Saturday, June 4), teams Marshall up with lead singer Katherine Brogren, who brings with her a background in formal modern dance and choreography. Brogren’s influence can be seen in the richly colorful projections and terpsichorean performers that often grace the stage and give the band’s overall presentation a visceral impact that goes beyond merely rocking out. Bringing together threads of dub and hard-edged psychedelia, this band generates a groove without crossing over into hippiedom.
