One of the beautiful things about being a fan of a relatively young genre such as electronic dance music is that many of the early masters are still performing. Take Frankie Bones, who plays July 31 at the Church. Bones was playing dance music when the ’80s were still a new decade, yet he remains a vital, dedicated artist to this day. He helped kick off the rave movement in the U.S. after a visit to the U.K. in the late ’80s and he’s been an unflagging proponent and practitioner of the art of the DJ, remaining a vinyl purist and voracious record collector even in this age of downloads and laptops. A remarkably prolific DJ and producer, Bones has put out dozens of singles, remixes and mix albums, covering a wide swath of the history of house and techno. No doubt his performance here will show what’s made him a living legend.
