Freddie Gibbs, the mixtape assassin from Gary, Indiana, is on the come-up. Signed to Young Jeezy’s Corporate Thugz Entertainment imprint, “Gangsta” Gibbs has a collection of underground street gems from projects like The Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs, released after he was dropped from Interscope in 2009. Most impressively, Gibbs released an EP with producer Madlib (as MadGlibbs) titled Thuggin’. Fashawn, the California-bred rapping phenom, is best known for his widely respected album Boy Meets World and for having one of the hottest flows around. His new album (The Ecology), due out in 2012, was produced by frequent collaborator and beatsmith Exile. The musical styles of Freddie Gibbs and Fashawn are different, but no matter: The flows are unique, the beats are fantastic and the dynamics are the same.
