Occasionally, an artist from in or around Denver will put out a release that captures the spirit of the moment and forever reminds you of that time. This seven-inch record from Gauntlet Hair is effectively that release for 2010. The songs echo and shimmer like spring sunshine through trees sporting their first green of the year. Sound purists will decry the lo-fi aesthetic, but Gauntlet Hair has wedded a deep rhythmic structure and percussive guitar play with cavernous melodic atmospheres. It's the sound of a band exploring its outer limits with playful abandon, as well as the ability to simultaneously carve out an identity and redefine it. Filled with a palpable sense of wonder and promise, these two songs bristle with anticipation for great adventures ahead.
