Love him or hate him, George Acosta has become a staple player in Denver’s dance-music scene. His latest mix CD, The Lost World, is a one-off of his infamous radio show of the same name. The mix is solid, starting off a bit dark and edgy and working itself into an uplifting fervor of synth melodies, haunting vocals and inspiring buildups. While the track selection is decent — the balance between peak-hour bangers and progressive fillers helps carry the set and keep things interesting — and the overall mix flows well enough as a whole, on the micro level there are some poorly placed tracks that are distracting. Even so, with trance’s popularity waning over the past few years, Lost is a trip down memory lane that conjures those all-night warehouse parties and is enjoyable nonetheless.
