The Denver Barn Dance, November 25 at the Gothic Theater, showcases Denvers emerging underground country music scene with performances from Marty Jones and the Pork Boilin Poor Boys, Chester Everett and his Ranch Rythmaires, and Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams (pictured). The evening seeks to reconcile the gap between new country and the more traditional twangs of the Hank Williams genre and to have a mighty fine time doing so. The featured bands represent a broad range of styles; each seeks to reaffirm and define country music for itself, whether drawing upon traditional sounds or pushing the music in more experimental directions. The Barn Dance is a chance to watch the evolution of a tried-and-true American style, and also to dance to some darn good tunes. Clearly, country music has come off the farm. Yee-haw!
