Yeah, Red Rocks is old — officially sixty years old this year and closer to sixty million years old in actual fact. But is there a better place to see a big concert? Anywhere? On the planet? Maybe: Supposedly those shows staged in front of the pyramids in Egypt are pretty cool. But there’s no argument that Red Rocks is a spectacular venue, and more than worthy of the birthday party the city is throwing for it on Friday, June 15. The schedule features guided tours of the amphitheater beginning at noon; a drum circle at 4 p.m.; performances by six area combos — Askimbo (pictured), Marcy’s Umbrella Band, Westbound 70, Carolyn’s Mother, Love .45 and Tinker’s Punishment — starting at 4:30 p.m.; and the screening of a movie, Rush Hour, at 9:20 p.m. (As an added bonus, 500 passes to the forthcoming Rush Hour 2 will also be distributed.) And the price? It’s free — just like it was sixty million years ago.
