John Digweed will always hold a special place in my heart. It was Digweed who catalyzed my transformation from an electronic-music dilettante to a full-blown dance-scene aficionado, by way of his first Global Underground mix and seeing him at one of the first half-dozen raves I attended. It was his work that spurred the realization that, in dance music, the DJ is king. And I’m not alone in my feelings for King John, who ranks as one of the world’s top DJs. He’s continued that reign as one of the scene’s primary tastemakers and premier performers for more than a decade, with no sign of giving up the crown anytime soon. From his trance and progressive roots through to today’s minimal-influenced dirty, twisted tech-funk style heard on his Transitions albums, Digweed has consistently tuned into fresh sounds and delivered top-quality mixes and compilations, not to mention stellar live performances. You can catch one of those this Thursday, September 18, when Digweed visits Beta.
