One of the state’s top reggae acts, Lion SoulJahs have been spreading their conscious roots reggae and dancehall tunes around these parts for years, opening for legends like the Wailers, Jimmy Cliff and Burning Spear, as well as backing up Ky-Mani Marley and Frankie Paul. Zion Bound is one of the few recordings the band has released, and while it doesn’t quite capture the spirited energy of the SoulJahs’ live shows, it’s a decent portrayal of what the group is capable of. “Gunshot,” which includes samples from the film The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, and “The Ark,” a shout-out to Mama Africa, are a few of the disc’s highlights. Although the vocoder effect on many of the tracks could have been toned down a bit, Zion Bound is still a solid effort throughout.
