The second annual Communikey Festival of Electronic Arts, one of the nation’s biggest electronic music festivals, kicks off properly tonight. In addition to a strong lineup of national and international talent — Thomas Fehlmann, Gudrun Gut, KiloWatts, Christopher Willits, for example — it also features an all-star cast of the Denver/Boulder-area’s finest talent. Tonight at the b.side lounge in Boulder, you can catch a showcase of the awesome Black Bridge label, including the spaced-out funk of Spaceflight Orchestra’s downtempo breaks. Tomorrow night, wedged in amongst the killer visiting acts at the Fox Theatre, you can catch the visual synthesis of Movax and the dubstep/downtempo fusion of Future Simple Project. Sunday, you can catch the dub-inspired dance of Alala. One at the Modern Love show at the New Foundry. That’s far from all — the local talent is firmly in the spotlight throughout the whole weekend.
