Few bass players possess the intensity and stage presence of former Cephalic Carnage bassist Jawsh Mullen. And for his part, Devon Rogers has been equally commanding and powerful behind the drums, keeping time for acts as diverse as Register, Hemi Cuda and Reverend Dead Eye. Munimula (due at 3 Kings Tavern on Thursday, November 20) finds the two deftly joining forces, the former mating his experience in crafting crushingly intense soundscapes with the latter’s talent for hard-hitting dynamics. Although plenty loud, instead of merely being another doom-rock band, this curiously named duo creates visceral atmospheres, fluid but as dense as mercury. Each show is bolstered by a visual element —a live painting, maybe, or a video specially crafted to go along with the music — for an effect that jostles not just the body, but also the imagination.
