Mobb Deep has been rapping about the same thing for ten years. And it’s gotten tired. While songs like “Got It Twisted,” “When You Hear theŠ” and “Neva Change” conjure up images of dark, wet New York City streets and back alleys with a sound that we’ve come to love, lyrically the stories haven’t really progressed over time. And although Havoc and Prodigy’s flow is fresh on a few standout tracks — “Throw Your Hands in the Air,” produced by Kanye West, “Win or Lose” and “One of Ours Part II” — it isn’t enough to rescue the album. The Mobb needs to dig a little deeper if it wants to become anyone’s nightmare.
