Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, better known as the German dance-music duo Modeselektor, aren’t afraid to expand the horizons of techno in their productions. Studio collaborations with Thom Yorke of Radiohead, noisemeister Otto von Schirach and fellow techno traveler Apparat are evidence of that. In their DJ sets, such as the upcoming one on Thursday, October 29, at the Bluebird Theater, they are even more wide-open and experimental, folding elements of house, psychedelia, dubstep, hip-hop and more into a techno base for a fun, funky, blend that’s always surprising. The twosome’s recent Body Language compilation is a perfect example of their musical acumen — a fantastic excursion that stretches boundaries and defies expectations while keeping heads nodding. If they can bring the same multifaceted mixture to life in front of a live crowd and keep the dance floor moving, this set will be something special.
