It may have taken a few years, but it seems that Pretty Lights Music artist Paul Basic has finally come out of his shell with Transient Horizons, his latest effort. "Dark Dream," with its dancing, synthesized strings, could easily serve as a standalone single primed for remixes, but Basic brings a slew of other gems to the album, including the jazzy "Black Spring" and "Nowhere Else," which is propelled by a distorted bass. "Cloak and Dagger" is the odd man out here, showing a darker side, but "Let Go" concludes the story perfectly with a streetwise hip-hop beat exaggerated by some soulful vocal samples. In a nod to the hometown crew, both Pretty Lights and Michal Menert have features here, but Basic needs no help in staking his claim as one of the most promising acts going.
