Dang! If you would've told us a decade ago that local acts would be playing shows at a place the size of the Fillmore on with stunning frequency -- read more than once a year or on a very special occasion, generally warming up the stage for a higher profile band from out of town -- we'd just go ahead and assume you'd just flown in from Crazytown.
Alas, though, here we are in 2011, and we've seen acts like 3OH!3, Pretty Lights, DeVotchKa, Yonder Mountain String Band and String Cheese Incident, among others, all graduate to those ranks. Add Savoy to that growing list. We've just learned that the New York-by-way-of-Colorado band has scored its very own headlining gig at the Fillmore on Friday, November 11. Not too shabby. Exactly a year ago, Savoy was at the Ogden. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m.
Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
