A cigarette-shop owner by day and MC/producer by night, Status uses his business mind and nicotine habit to leverage his newest solo project, Marlboro Man. All of the beats employed on this album are relics from Status’s collection that until now had not seen the light of day. From a lyrics standpoint, Marlboro Man contains some of the most personal and intimate tracks that he’s released yet. This outpouring of emotion seems to have stemmed from reflecting on the past while writing to his old beats, as well as from personal tragedies that occurred over the past year. Personal albums can be hit or miss, but Status proves to be a believable and pragmatic storyteller. His matter-of-fact approach to describing life is spot-on, accurately depicting what we all have felt at some point in our lives.
