Can you tell Christmas is just two days away? Everybody's getting in the holiday spirit it seems. We just heard that the Fray is giving away five unreleased Christmas MP3s. Well, the first one, fittingly enough, "The First Noel," is absolutely free, no strings attached. The other four are free, too, but there's a slight catch. To get your hands on the other tracks ("O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "Silent Night," "Away In A Manger" and "O Come All Ye Faithful"), you need to join the band's fan club (yeah, we know -- we're still trying to wrap our heads around the fact that a local band has a fan club).

And membership -- which is free for a limited time -- evidently has its privileges. Besides being hooked up with the yuletide tunes, the year-long membership entitles you to all the perks you'd expect from being in a fan club -- you know, like getting exclusive access to buy presale and VIP tickets to shows, the inside track on all band-related news, more music, videos, merch and stuff like that, as well as a signed glossy 8X10 of each band member, along with a lock of each guy's hair (okay, we might be making that last one up; there's no mention of a photo or any sort of DNA-related items).

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
