Bassist Chris Pearson has been a key component in two strong Denver bands, Jux County and the Czars. Now he’s a member of the Inconsolable, and if his new group’s not yet on the level of these predecessors, it’s on the right road.
The liner notes emphasize that “this album is intended to be played in its entirety during one continuous sitting,” and to that end, the usual gaps between cuts are replaced by found sounds and other segues. As for the music Pearson makes with guitarist/vocalist Dan Kaufman and drummer Dre Goloskewitsch, it’s heavy on atmosphere, drama and portentousness. The CD is less a collection of individual songs than a dark sonic potpourri requiring repeated listens to sink in. However, “Denver Is Full of Ghosts,” the opening number, and “The Wire Analogue,” a witty track subtitled “Love Theme From The Eiger Sanction,” are more than capable of standing on their own.
It’s a worthy Disappearing act.
