Tonight: Follow That Bird! at the hi-dive

In its relatively short life, Austin's Follow That Bird! (due at the hi-dive tonight with the Marrow, Married in Berdichev, Port Au Prince and Jess Williamson) has moved from an instrumental duo to a fierce and vocally-led trio, all while continuing on its path of smart, straightforward rock and roll. Beyond the obvious comparisons to Corin Tucker's vocal style, Lauren Green leads the minimalist group with an equally strong and bristly voice, barreling through Follow That Bird!'s guitar-heavy compositions.

Playing SXSW and subsequently catching the attention of Matador Records last year, the band was asked to contribute to an Austin-centric compilation for the label, and have been on an upward trajectory ever since. This show is 21 and up, and tickets are $6. Doors open at 8 p.m., and bands start at 9 p.m.

Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
