This summer, Lipgloss will be celebrating its tenth birthday, and for a dance night, that's some pretty serious commitment. Michael Trundle, a founding member of the Denver3 -- the dudes who started the now-Friday-night institution back in 2001 -- knows what it takes to keep the masses rolling back to the floor every week: sonic variation. Tonight he brings Denver's own Real Is a Feeling resident, Ron Cole (aka Hollagramz), to the decks with Chicago mixmaster Skyler Mendoza for an evening of deep house and tribal beats.
To complement the evening's diverse sounds, Audio Visual Violence Club -- live art duo Mario Zoots and Jeromie Dorrance -- will be stopping by to share their warped pastel projections. Resident DJs Boyhollow (Trundle) and Chase Dobson will also be in the house, so bets are on that this Friday night party will to be a sick one. Check out the video below for a taste of what happens when Hollagramz and AVVC put sights and sounds together. Lipgloss at La Rumba is 21 and up; doors open at 9 p.m. The event is free before 10 p.m. and $5 thereafter.
Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
