Long before the members of !!! had even gotten their periods, Tim Kerr, of the legendary punk outfit the Big Boys, was flirting with funk and R&B. Now, after doing time in a steady progression of kick-ass bands across almost three decades, the guitarist has hit upon the quintessential clusterfuck of soul grit, rock bravado, punk bluntness and gospel fervor. Total Sound Group Direct Action Committee is a fanatical junta funneling revolutionary zeal into a hand-clapping, whistle-blowing, organ-thumping confluence of sound and motion. Aided by singer Mike Carroll, Kerr's co-conspirator in the revered garage-blues acts Poison 13 and Lord High Fixers, the Committee recently pounded out a raucous debut called The Party Platform...Our Schedule Is Change. As much a manifesto as an album, the disc rips open your chest and rubs sweat in the wound as it snarls its way through a ham-fisted mashing of the MC5, Booker T. and the MG's and the collected works of Stokely Carmichael. Kerr and company will rip it up alongside the Swingin' Neckbreakers as part of Mile High Mayhem, Denver's annual celebration of mod and scooter culture. Come on down and get a whiff of the sweet, smoky smell of noise and freedom.
