Westword members were treated to an intimate show by one of Denver's best indie artists on November 13.
Eman El Saied, who performs as Sunstoney, brought her shimmering tunes to our office, where she performed songs from past releases, such as "Ride," as well as tunes off of her latest EP, The Mirror Is Calling, including the title track, "Stoned in the Parking Lot" and "Iridescent."
After the performance, which included bassist Kathryn Fernandez and drummer Susan Lucia, Sunstoney and her bandmates took part in a Q&A with the audience. One Westword member asked Sunstoney how she approaches self-care as an artist, and her answer was particularly poignant. "You need to learn how to do nothing," she noted, elaborating that taking time to recharge fuels creativity more than forcing yourself to make art and stressing out over it.
Sunstoney also teased her upcoming release, a remix of The Mirror Is Calling, which will drop on December 5. The next time you can see her live will be on March 22, with Forager and Tireshoe, venue TBD; be sure to follow her on Instagram for updates.
