Weekend Dance Card: Planet of the Drums, the Missing Link, Lee Burridge, Margaret Dygas, Get Down Underground

Drum-and-bass seems to be re-surging, due perhaps in part to the current obsession with all things bass-heavy. Reload: Planet of the Drums, tonight at the Gothic Theatre, features a familiar line-up: Dara, AK1200 and Dieselboy, three selectors who have long been at the forefront of the American DNB scene, MC Messinian on the mike, and Denver's own drum-and-bass superstar, DJ Fury on opening duties. ($30, 16+)

The Missing Link, one of Denver's finest techno producers, performs live tonight at Musik1st's monthly at Funky Buddha. Also known as Matt Cavender, the Missing Link is a key player in the local underground techno scene, with a number of highly impressive releases on top-notch labels including Wagon Repair, Toggle Recordings and Denver-based Emote Music. Also performing is Kid Mac (aka Pils) and, of course, your host, the illustrious Nutmeg. (No cover, 21+)

Lee Burridge will play a four-hour set on Beta's primo Funktion-One sound system Saturday night. Burridge is one of Denver's favorite DJ, so expect a massive turnout for the charismatic jock, and a solid set from one of dance music's most enduringly popular DJs. Wolfe opens things up on the main floor with Boulder Beats upstairs in the Beatport Lounge. Good one, Beta. ($10-$15, 18+)

Following the Burridge show, Margaret Dygas headlines an after-hours event at the Would Shop. A cutting-edge minimal techno producer, Dygas has released on some of the world's most prestigious techno labels, including the German imprints Perlon and Ostgut Ton (she also relased a debut album, How Do You Do, on Japan's Power Shovel Audio last year). Her set will stretch the boundaries of electronic music, which will either blow your mind, or bore you to tears, depending on your affinity for the minimal subgenre. Local DJs include Tess, Maya Amack and MikeRobot vs. Doc Noe. ($10-$15, 21+)

Get Down Underground, Saturday night at Apex Movement in Boulder, features some of the best local house talent. Ejay of Spellbound Music performs along with Khalib from the Treehouse Collective, Tony Z and Michael Jones. Décor by Angelina always adds a nice touch. Should be good vibes and good times. ($10, 21+)
