The title track of this album is an opening salvo that sets the pace for a collection of songs that make you wonder how this outfit can call itself Yawn Tron. As Iuengliss, Tom Metz’s solo material is expansive and heady, in sharp contrast to his work here. The first two tracks have a dense and frenetic pacing despite being essentially minimalist pieces set at hectic BPM. “Gold Crowned Teeth” ratchets down the headlong rate of the music slightly and injects gritty textures. Had Front Line Assembly emerged now instead of in the ’80s and dispensed with vocals entirely, it might have come up with something like this. Unlike that act’s catalogue, however, this release is exuberant and playful rather than dark and desperate.
