Last week I wrote about the shocking death of 18-year-old Whitney deMoraes Hendrickson — “On a Dark Day, Celebrating a Good Life” — and the remarkable community response to the tragedy in Colorado Springs. Now that blog and several other reflections about Whitney, as well as news accounts of the fatal accident, have been posted here by her family. Included is the full text of the memorial service remarks offered by her father, author and political science professor David Hendrickson — a singular example of grace in the face of overwhelming grief.

Scroll down to the bottom of the site, and you’ll find a scrapbook Whitney put together a few months ago as an irreverent Christmas present for her dad, which has him Photoshopped into embarrassing situations with several well-known political figures. The send-up is a good example of Whitney’s spirit and sharp humor, still bringing smiles to those who knew her best.
