The One Book, One Denver reading program may have overlooked the 50th anniversary of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road – even though the work has numerous Denver references – and chosen local author Nick Arvin’s Articles of War for this year’s selection, but Book Forum magazine didn’t forget the big birthday. Its new issue includes a thought-provoking deconstruction of On the Road by Los Angeles Times book critic David Ulin. Even better, however, is the magazine’s inclusion of Kerouac’s proposed design for the paperback edition of the book (right). I think I drew that exact cover for a fifth-grade book report. – Joel Warner
