According to the judge, by attempting to ban "all picketing activity it finds inconvenient and distracting," King Soopers was going against Colorado law protecting the right to strike. And despite the cold, strikers will definitely be out there again this weekend.
In their comments on the Westword Facebook page as well as Instagram, readers serve up plenty of opinions about the strike Says Jake:
Haven’t been to Soops since the strike started. Stay strong!Counters ripster1981:
I really don’t care if they're standing out there in the cold. I am still going to shop at King Soopers regardless of the strike because these people do not know how good they have it. When their stores close and they are out of job because they tried to break corporate, then maybe they will learn.Offers Jessica:
So proud of them for standing up for what’s right. I hope King Soopers makes a good deal — they owe their workers far more than they are asking for,Asks John:
Who gives a shit? They’re always on strike. Be happy y'all have jobs and get to work. I’ll be shopping even more at KS.Admits 303farmer:
I can’t wait for this to be over; I’m tired of scanning and bagging my groceries during this strike…. Oh, wait, never mind….Wonders Ray:
Although I would never cross a picket line, ya gotta wonder what kind of human being would work for a horrible, greed-based company like Kroger? Their employees are so obviously miserable.Says Chris:
Every three years without fail: Strike more than any other union anywhere.Responds Bruce:
Every three years without fail. Kroger backs the union into a corner so that it has no other choice but to brave the elements to fight for what's right, more than is done to any other union anywhere. (There, I fixed that for you; you’re welcome.)Offers Helen:
Thank you for the articles on the King Soopers strike. I live in Wheat Ridge; I used to be a King Soopers shopper. But now that employees are on strike, I shop instead at Walmart, Save a Lot or Target. I would never disrespect the employees and cross that picket line. I believe they have the right to stand up for what they need. And this just in from Ross:
I fully support the workers striking, but I witnessed picketers harassing and yelling at customers at the Ninth and Corona store. There was an atmosphere of tension and hate from the picketers. King Soopers/Kroger is at fault here, the workers decided to strike, how dare they place the burden of this on the customer! Especially during a deep freeze; not everyone can drive or walk to another store. To villainize customers is completely wrong. It made me lose a lot of sympathy for the strikers to see this shameful behavior against innocent customers just trying to live their lives. "We were treated badly, so now we will treat others badly" is not an effective protest strategy. They are risking turning supporters away because of their aggressive actions towards customers. Buying groceries is not a social or political act, and you can't force people to support your cause through intimidation and anger. Though I do support their cause, I DO NOT support aggression or intimidation towards customers and it needs to stop before they lose more support from the community.Where have you been shopping during the King Soopers strike?
