Denver is growing, with new office, retail and housing projects going up all the time. You don't do more than look around the city to realize that, but according to the Denver Office of Community Planning and Development, 2014 saw 20 percent more development projects within Denver city limits than 2013. And the CPD says it is taking steps to improve services as the department continues to work with more people on more projects.
"Denver weathered the recession better than most," says Andrea Burns, CPD communications director. "People want to move here, people want to live here, people want to build here, people are reinvesting in their homes.
"We're seeing a volume of demand that we haven't seen in at least ten years," Burns continues.
In July 2014, the department clocked the highest monthly volume for building permits in ten years. "We are just striving to keep pace with the demand," Burns says.
In response to this growing demand, CPD created a feedback survey that it released that same month, with questions created by CPD officials and the city's Chief Performance Officer, as well as some ideas from developers doing business in Denver. While the department continues to collect input, it's already learning a lot about both how CPD works and Denver as a whole, according to Burns.

"Right now, we're seeing a demand for the single-family home," she explains. "Of all the things that are rising, that one is rising, in terms of volume, more than the others."
Blank surveys are available in the CPD lobby at the Webb building; the department also e-mails a link to the online version to people working with CPD on projects. About thirty to fifty surveys are completed each month; it will be a few weeks before the department has compiled all the responses from 2014. But as anyone who has walked around Denver can see, this city is growing.
