Denver Is the Top City for Public Sex, Survey Finds

Denver residents are freaks in the sheets and freaks in the streets.

Three in four Denverites have gotten it on in public — the most in the country — according to a new Lucky.me survey of adults living in the United States' fifty largest cities. Nationally, 50.4 percent of respondents say they have had sex in public, compared to 74.6 percent of Denver respondents.

The only other Colorado city included in the survey, Colorado Springs, ranked sixteenth. Around 53.3 percent of Colorado Springs residents report having sex in public, just over the national average.

Other top cities for dogging include second-place Philadelphia at 71.2 percent; third-place Sacramento at 66.7 percent; and fourth-place Memphis at 66 percent. The cities with the least exhibitionism-inclined residents are New York City (31 percent), Raleigh, North Carolina (31.3 percent), and Virginia Beach, Virginia (38.9 percent).

Parked cars are the most popular venue for public romping in Denver, with 100 percent of respondents who admit to having sex in public saying they've done the deed in a car.

After that, public parks (52.3 percent) and nature trails/wooded areas (50 percent) are the most favored spots among Denver residents. One respondent even claims to have gotten down and dirty at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Other common settings include moving vehicles, parking lots outside of vehicles, public restrooms and movie theaters.

Ironically, the Mile High City is not the number-one city for members of the Mile High Club, with only 6.8 percent of Denver respondents saying they have had sex in an airplane. That earns the city tenth place. In first place for airborne baby-making: Chicago, where a whopping 18.5 percent of respondents report fornicating on flights.

Denver has become a bit of a sex epicenter lately. Two national sex conventions — the Sexual Health Alliance's Sexological Conference and the Pleasure Island Experience: Erotic Blueprint Workshop — were booked for the Mile High City this month. Last month, the Denver Sexploratorium opened the city's only sex-based museum, one of just a handful in the world.

However, while Denver has the highest rate of public sex, the city placed third in the Lucky.me survey's overall ranking of the best cities for freaking in the streets, behind Sacramento and Philadelphia.

"While more Denver residents have had sex in public than residents of other cities, the frequency was lower," explains Matt Zajechowski, spokesperson for Lucky.me. He says the overall ranking includes factors such as the types of sexual experiences, how many times respondents have had sex in public, and the number and type of places they've had sex in.

Out of all the cities surveyed, Denver had the lowest rates of respondents who say they've had sex in a library, gym, elevator or massage parlor, or on a beach.

Looks like Denver's deviants still have more work to do.
