Four hundred Denver protesters gathered at the Colorado State Capitol on Saturday, January 17, ahead of President Donald Trump’s one-year anniversary of the start of his second term on January 20.

Signs and chants at the “One Year is Enough” protest and march decried mass deportations, violence by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Trump’s reluctance to release the full Epstein files.

The “One Year is Enough” protest was organized by the Denver United Coalition Against Trump (DENCAT), a group of activists who put together some of last year’s largest anti-Trump and anti-ICE demonstrations along with 50501 Colorado, the Aurora Unidos Community Service Organization and Housekeys Action Network Denver. Similar demonstrations are occurring throughout the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend.

The Denver action started with a gathering at the Capitol, where members of DENCAT gave speeches on the west steps; the Colorado State Patrol estimated the crowd at around 400. Most of the group then marched down 16th Street, interrupting a few RTD light rail trains along the way, before heading to 19th and Stout streets, where it stopped in front of the federal Bryon White U.S. Courthouse. DENCAT activists offered more speeches (though they never explained the stop there), praising students for fueling political movements, as they did with Israel-Gaza protests on college campuses, including Auraria.

Immigrant activist Jeanette Vizguerra, who was released in December from ICE detention in Aurora after nine months, was at the head of the march: filming the action, shouting “Chinga la Migra” (“Fuck ICE” in Spanish) and shaking hands with admiring protesters. She was also front and center of the march against ICE in Denver on January 9.

Most protesters began peeling off from the march around 2 p.m., just in time for the Broncos kickoff.
