Last week, we told you about Connie Liphford, who was found guilty of a 2008 rape based on a DNA hit made years later. But the victim of a home invasion-sexual assault didn't have to wait nearly as long for police to zero in on a suspect. Derrik Holmes was busted in the case within days based on the telltale stuff he allegedly left behind.

On April 15, according to an arrest affidavit seen below in its entirety, a Denver woman went to bed as normal, only to wake up after hearing something. As her eyes focused, she was startled by a terrifying sight -- a man coming through her window.

After she started screaming, the man is said to have pushed her to the floor, stomach first, and sat on top of her, then covered her with a blanket in an apparent effort to muzzle her cries. He then told her that he was armed with a knife and a gun, but he only wanted money and wouldn't touch her.

He lied. Moments later, he began pulling off the woman's clothes before ordering her to get back on the bed. As the rape was going on, the woman asked the man to stop, and he said he would....

Afterward, the man asked the woman for information about the closest ATM. She mentioned one at a 7-Eleven, but he wanted a drive-through. So she ferried him to a nearby Chase Bank and made a withdrawal before dropping him off at the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Dahlia. Once he was gone, she headed home and promptly called the cops.

A physical examination of the woman showed genital and body surface trauma, as well as registering traces of DNA from her assailant -- and by April 19, the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) registered a match of the latter with one Derrik Lamond Holmes, age thirty.

Holmes was promptly arrested, and the Denver District Attorney's Office has charged him with two counts apiece of sexual assault and kidnapping, plus aggravated robbery. He remains in custody on a $250,000 bond and is due in county court at 9:30 a.m. this morning to be advised of the accusations against him.
