According to public information officer John Bradley, the Brighton Police Department doesn't label an incident as a homicide or attempted homicide until investigators sign off on the description -- and that still hasn't happened regarding a January 25 shooting in Brighton.

Now, however, we know that Jay Landeck, thirty, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a family argument in which someone else was shot. Was it a murder-suicide try? Or something else entirely? Here's what we know so far.

At 1:50 a.m. on Saturday the 25th, according to the BPD, officers were dispatched to an address on the 3500 block of Hottman Street on a report of a family disturbance.

Upon their arrival, they discovered two adult men with apparent gunshot wounds.

One of them -- Jay Landeck -- was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to an area hospital.

The condition of the latter is unknown at this time, but 7News reports that the wound was to the man's leg.

As for Jay, there's not a great deal of material about him online. This photo is from a now-deleted MySpace page....

...while this one is the profile pic on a not-very-active Facebook page (six followers, just a couple of posts viewable by all visitors): Additionally, this site lists Landeck as the owner of a graphic design company.

As of now, the incident remains under investigation, meaning police reps are keeping other details to themselves. But clearly a family has been shaken by a traumatic incident that left a young man dead.

Here's the aforementioned 7News piece from the day after the shooting.
