The woman who died has just been identified as Mae Kuroki, age 81.
And the person who's been taken into custody in the incident? David Kuroki, her 53-year-old-son, who was subsequently hospitalized after apparently harming himself. Details below.
According to his LinkedIn profile, David Kuroki is a biotechnology professional with Novus Biologicals, whose goal is to "accelerate scientific discovery by developing and marketing unique products for the lifesciences."At around 11:10 a.m. yesterday, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to an East Dry Creek Road apartment on what's described as a welfare check.
There they found the the elder Kuroki, who died under circumstances that led investigators to suspect homicide. Law enforcers soon came up with the name of a possible suspect -- David Kuroki -- and put out an alert.
Shortly thereafter, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a medical-issue-related call to the 11000 block of East Lansing Circle. The person they found there was David Kuroki, who was transported to a local hospital with "self-inflicted injuries."
The ACSO release continues to identify the incident as a homicide, but there's no reference to an arrest of Mae Kuroki's son or potential charges -- possibly because of his current condition.
