Move over, Colorado Springs. Colorado has a new top boomtown.

The personal finance publication GOBankingRates analyzed population and income changes over eight years to determine which cities in each state experienced the most significant growth. The report compared data from 2015 to the latest five-year U.S. Census American Community Survey in 2023, and only considered cities with total populations between 25,000 and 500,000.

Last year, Colorado Springs was named the state’s biggest boomtown. But the title now belongs to the Town of Windsor in northern Colorado. According to the report, released December 1, Windsor had the greatest percentage increases in population and positive economic activity statewide.

Between 2015 and 2023, Windsor’s population increased by 75.6 percent, hitting 35,918 people, according to the report. Its per capita income rose by 52.5 percent, reaching $55,691. The report also noted an 86.6 percent increase in occupied housing units and an 82.2 percent increase in owner-occupied housing units.

Windsor is a 25-square-mile community in Larimer and Weld counties, located between Fort Collins and Greeley. Founded in 1882, the town has experienced rapid growth in recent years. The community enjoys small-town charm and affordability, while sitting just an hour’s drive from large employment hubs like Denver and Boulder.

Notably, Windsor has been home to U.S. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert since early 2024, after she fled her former congressional district in search of an easier electoral victory. (Maybe Boebert was seeking Windsor’s surging economic prosperity, in addition to the carpetbagging.)

Here are the top boomtowns in each state, according to the GOBankingRates report. Hawaii was not included in the analysis because it does not have incorporated cities, instead using Census Designated Places that weren’t considered in the study.
