Reader: Stoner Hill Is Beautiful, Not an Eyesore, and Here's Why

Andrew Kenney's feature article about Stoner Hill, located near the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River in Commons Park, highlighted the often negative reaction of neighbors to the homeless youths who regularly gather there.

But as demonstrated by many of the comments shared on the piece, plenty of folks view the site more positively.

As an example, check out the following post, which gets poetic about Stoner Hill and what it represents.

Here's what this reader has to say.

Maia Tracy writes:

I'll never forget the first time I wandered upon "Stoner Hill." I was walking around exploring the river with the little 2 year old nug I nanny — I was unaware of its existence and he wanted to hike up and view his city. As we neared the top, I became aware of the sound of deep bass, a cloud of smoke, and the buzz of a crowd hidden from below. I scooped up the little man and was greeted by smiles. Just happy young peeps out there taking in the same view we were out to appreciate. We took in the beauty of our city — the mountians, the architecture, the river and its diverse population of people — cyclists, business people, students, musicians, teachers and travelers. As we began to walk down the hill, a feeling of gratitude washed over me. Grateful to live in a place where people come to seek community. Perhaps instead of fencing out an entire community, we interweave communities together — recognizing that at one point we were all two years old, walking up a hill, with no view of the top, just hiking up, up up, with hopes of something grand, and beautiful.
