The first game of the first round of the NHL playoffs is scheduled today and hockey wizards are saying that the San Jose Sharks will take the Colorado Avalanche in five. I’m much more optimistic and can safely predict that Avalanche fans will see the Stanley Cup in Colorado this year — but only if they turn their eyes away from the TV and look to the skies above the South Platte neighborhood warehouse district. In perfect proportion to the original, the Stanley Cup seen in the photo above, looms large and silver above the Sheker Studio. Here, custom furniture is manufactured by Gabe, a man who looks remarkably like a pre-hamburger-drunk David Hasslehoff. Gabe clearly demonstrates with this high-standing handicraft, that hockey awards aren’t won on the road. They’re made right here at home.
