Things to Do

Today's featured event: Celebrate summer! Cruise where no bike has gone before

Get a head start on the solstice tonight when cruiser bikers from all over the city converge for the Park to Park Summer Solstice Cruiser Ride, a leisurely social ride linking three major -- and lovely -- Denver landmarks: City Park, the Denver Botanic Gardens and Washington Park. Celebrate summer and the spirit of green volunteering courtesy of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, BikeDenver and the DBG beginning at 6 p.m. at the Thatcher Fountain in City Park, 17th Avenue and City Park Esplanade (wear a helmet, and arrive early to sign a safety waiver). From there, the guided ride will wend its way through the gardens, where bikes are seldom -- make that never -- seen or even allowed. Then, it's off to Wash Park, where New Belgium Brewing Company and Noodles & Company will provide quaffs and eats for all. Nuthin' but fun, and no rider will be left behind. Get details and register in advance at BikeDenver's website.

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
