President Trump Joins the Shedeur Sanders NFL Draft Debate

After Deion Sanders's son fell out of the first round in the NFL draft, Donald Trump praised their "PHENOMENAL GENES" online and called out NFL owners. But the snubs continued.

In a move that was either a shock or totally predictable, depending on what you think of Mel Kiper, Shedeur Sanders wasn't picked in the first round of the NFL draft on April 24.

But if you ask President Donald Trump, failing to pick Sanders was a mistake. The president expressed his displeasure with Sanders's first-round snub on Truth Social, his social media platform, while also admiring the DNA of the Sanders family.

"What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?" Trump wrote on April 25. "Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He's also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness."

In the first days of Trump's second term, he's issued 130 executive orders. Perhaps he will issue one now that retroactively makes Sanders a first-round pick or creates a national holiday acknowledging the "Phenomenal Sanders Genes." Or maybe the Commander in Chief can make a team select Shedeur on his behalf.

Either way, Trump's callout of NFL owners isn't without precedent.

Trump has unsuccessfully attempted to purchase an NFL team several times, and those failures have caused him to have a "vendetta" against the league, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. His failed bids include tries for the Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills.

Shedeur, for his part, took the news with a little more grace.

"We all didn't expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything is possible, everything is possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason," Sanders told those gathered for a draft party in his honor on April 24.  "All of this is, of course, fuel to the fire. Under no circumstances did we all know this was going to happen, but we understand. We on to bigger and better things."

If Trump gets his way, that will certainly be true, though it seems the president is less worried about Shedeur and may simply want to hang out with Deion.

"He should be 'picked' IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN," Trump concluded of Shedeur. "Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father."

Despite Trump's endorsement, however, the Shedeur Sanders snubs continued until he was finally chosen in the fifth draft.
