The election season proved that people rely on social media heavily for their news. This year on Instagram alone, our Reels covering the election received more than 363,000 views. From July to November, our election coverage on Instagram received more than 1.9 million impressions. For many, social media was the first place they saw the election results, and for some, social media is their primary news source.

At Westword, we understand the importance of meeting audiences where they are. That's why, in November, we showed up with our election coverage on your TikTok For You page, in your Instagram and Facebook feeds, on X, and on Threads.

And we've expanded to even more channels.

You can now officially find Westword on Reddit and Bluesky.

You may have read that users are increasingly moving away from X and over to Bluesky. We're ready to meet them there with our daily news articles and engaging content. We already knew there were lively discussions happening on Reddit about Denver news, food and culture. Now we want to bring our reporting to those discussions from our own account (and hopefully debate with you there about the best green chile in town).

We understand the changing media landscape. We're eager to grow with it and adapt our content to how audiences want to consume it — whether that's reading a full article, watching a short video, or getting the key points from an Instagram post.

Westword's Digital Presence

Westword first hit the streets of Denver in 1977, and our website appeared on the scene fifteen years later. Ever since, we've navigated the changing digital world and stayed committed to bringing audiences daily coverage of the local news, culture and food scenes.

An ever-changing media landscape is why Westword hired a social media editor — me — in February 2023, and has continued to grow its audience team since. This growth is a continuation of the commitment to meet audiences where they want to consume news, as well as a commitment to keeping our news accessible.

We realize that reading an article, whether it's on our website or in print, isn't how every reader wants to consume our news anymore. And you should be able to be informed about what's going on in your city in a way that works for you.

We hope our presence on every platform adds to the lively discussions already taking place about this city and also sparks new conversations. We hope that no matter which platform you prefer, you keep up with our content and engage with it. We'll continue working every day to bring you important stories at no cost.

Have feedback about our social media presence or what kind of content you'd like to see on those channels? Email me at [email protected] or DM any Westword social channel.
