Spring is a time of growth, renewal and fresh beginnings…especially here at Westword, where we’ve just published the annual Best of Denver and can now focus renewed energy on digging into stories about Denver.
We could use your help. In the immortal words of Dolly Levi: “Money, pardon the expression, is like manure. It’s not worth a thing unless it’s spread around, encouraging young things to grow.”
Even if Westword is no longer young — we'll celebrate our fiftieth anniversary in 2027 — there are always new subjects to chase, new stories to share with you. And while Westword has always been free — both in print and online — quality local journalism doesn't come cheap, and the landscape advertising is changing.
That's why, six years ago, we started a membership program that encourages regular readers to contribute to supporting our newsroom. Those contributions have allowed us to offer paid internships to talented young journalists (our social media editor got her start here as an intern), add another staff writer to our team, and expand our political coverage during last year's election.
We also began hosting members-only events, as a way to bring the communities we cover together. We're starting a new season of office concerts this week, featuring the Best of Denver 2025 award-winning duo Blankslate. And we'd like to have you there.
When you support our community-rooted newsroom, you don't just snag an invitation to this show on Thursday, April 10. You support our ongoing commitment to producing independent local journalism that connects readers to the communities around them. That digs into the real stories in metro Denver.
During spring membership drive, we’ve set a goal of raising $15,000 by April 27. You can give any amount to become a member; find out how here.
Thanks in advance for helping Westword keep going...and growing.
