Among the insults President Donald Trump tossed Colorado’s way last week was this December 30 post on Truth Social: “California and Colorado are two of the TOP OUTBOUND STATES IN 2025 (United Van Lines!) – In other words, PEOPLE LEAVING!!! That’s what bad governors do to even places blessed with beautiful surrounds and climate. “

Bad governors like “sleazebag” Jared Polis, as Trump has called Colorado’s governor. “They’re wasting a lot of money and people are leaving the state. They’re leaving the state in droves. Bad governor,” Trump told Politico on December 31, explaining his veto of the bipartisan Arkansas Valley Conduit proposal, which Colorado’s Congressional delegation is hoping to override on January 8.

And, of course, Trump would like to move at least one more person out of Colorado: If he can’t persuade the “sleazebag” to recognize his “full Pardon” of former Mesa County clerk and election denier Tina Peters, Trump wants her transferred out of the Colorado Department of Corrections to a federal prison.

But just as he accuses Colorado of “rigging” elections, Trump’s own numbers might need a recount.

While a survey by United Van Lines released December 29 did indeed include Colorado among the states with more outward than inbound moves — along with New Jersey, New York, California, North Dakota, Mississippi and Massachusetts — a just-released report from U-Haul suggests that Colorado has reversed course.

People are coming here. In droves, even.

According to the U-Haul, the state ranked in the top 25 for in-migration in 2025, landing at No. 20.

“Some major metros to make the top 25 did so by reversing recent migration trends,” U-Haul reports. “San Francisco, Denver and Philadelphia saw more orange-clad moving equipment leaving than arriving in 2024, only to post strong net-gain numbers in 2025.”

That’s a big comeback for Colorado, which registered the worst year-over-year drop in the country in 2024, according to U-Haul, with 50.3 percent of its one-way customers leaving the state and 49.7 percent coming in. The year before, Colorado had ranked ninth in the nation for in-bound traffic.

And now it looks like Colorado’s bouncing back. Take that, Trump!

For the record, three cities in very red Texas — Dallas, Houston and Austin — took the top slots for inbound traffic in 2025, with the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area again grabbing U-Haul’s top slot.
