Jefferson Park is an up-and-coming part of Denver — but has it arrived as a dining destination? Gretchen Kurtz just reviewed Amass, a new French bistro that moved into the spot Corner House vacated after eighteen months. And right now, she says, the kitchen lacks the critical mass needed to make Amass a hit.

As much as I would like to see them succeed, and I wish them the very best, I’m afraid this place will follow the steps of the defunct Corner House that once occupied that space. The neighborhood does not yet warrant a place of such attempted sophistication and price point. (Sarto’s aside, as they are in a category much onto their own.)The space would be a better fit for a simple gastropub with more flexibility in prices and cuisine. Perhaps Amass might consider such in the form of a 2.0 — which Corner House also attempted, but failed. What’s the famous saying? “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
