Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold prides herself on running the “gold standard” of election systems, but her office got a little tarnished at the end of October, when it was revealed – by the Colorado Republican Party – that for months, a hidden page on a public site had included a list of passwords for all but one county in the state (34 of the counties were still using those passwords). Griswold had learned of the problem five days earlier, but had not yet informed the county election offices when they got the word through the Republican Party. Governor Jared Polis got involved quickly, and the passwords were changed before the election.
Now the Denver District Attorney’s Office is investigating the situation with assistance from the 4th Judicial District Attorney in El Paso County.
In their comments on the Westword Facebook page, readers have plenty to say about Griswold’s gaffes. Says Jerry:
Jena Griswold is a shameless hack. There is no purpose in saying “shame on you.” Her conscience is seared and her heart is black. Her open partisanship and poor judgment reflect poorly on the left-wing power brokers who supported her into office. They would be well served to cut their losses with her.
Notes Ray:
A password, as the name implies, is a word that grants access to something. Period. What was planted in a hidden location on the website, was a list of partial passwords that, and I will type slowly, do not grant access. And surprise, after the partials were planted, a group of Republicans accidentally “discovered” (wink wink) them. Get a clue, Westword. (Although I know, scandalous sells.)
Offers Mark:
At some point, you have to concede that Jena Griswold is unqualified to hold this position.
Counters Michael:
We got the president we wanted, so her bullshit didn’t matter in the long run.
Concludes Rob:
She’s gotta go. Some mistakes are too deep.
