These days, we’ll take good news where we can get it. And this morning, we got it from the Washington, D.C.-based Pew Research Center, which just released the results of a poll conducted this fall, asking American adults for their favorite big city, the place they’d like to call home. And the winner?
Denver.
Given their choice of thirty major metropolitan areas, 43 percent of the people polled picked Denver as number one, with San Diego and Seattle close behind.
It was exactly twenty years ago that John Elway had just lost his first Super Bowl attempt, and in mocking the losing city, a national news report noted that Denver had never been number one in anything but air pollution. Which wasn’t precisely true: At the time, I believe we were also number one in vitamin consumption and number of psychiatrists per capita — and we had the largest laundromat in the world.
