Cart-Driver LoHi Reopening After More Than a Year

Necessary repairs and renovations took much longer than expected.

One of the best places to eat pizza in the city will soon have two locations again.

Just before Christmas a year ago, a plumbing issue forced Cart-Driver's LoHi outpost, at 2239 West 30th Avenue, to close. On December 22, 2023, it posted an update on Instagram: "We have some tough news, everyone. We learned today that a different section of plumbing underneath our kitchen floor here at Cart-Driver LoHi needs some serious repairs. We are closed, and we will remain closed while we take care of this issue. That's likely going to take a month, hopefully not longer."

But it took much longer. "Cart-Driver LoHi closed unexpectedly in December 2023 due to a plumbing issue. The resulting damage required extensive repairs to the majority of the restaurant," says owner Andy Neimeyer. Now, more than a year later, the renovations and repairs are complete and the restaurant is set to reopen on Thursday, January 16. Tables will be available via walk-ins only for its first weekend back; reservations are now open for January 20 and beyond.

The first Cart-Driver opened in a shopping container in RiNo in 2014, bringing blistered Neapolitan pies and oysters to the neighborhood and ushering in a wave of higher-quality pizza in the metro area. In 2018, the owners took over the former Z Cuisine space in LoHi, introducing a larger (but still intimate) dining room and expanded menu.

When this second location opens its doors once again, guests can expect a familiar menu of Cart-Driver's signature wood-fired pizza, housemade pasta, fresh oysters and small plates. There will also be plenty of natural wine, local beer, amaro and craft cocktails, including its first Cocktail for a Cause of the year: the Tiger Tiger, made with Four Roses bourbon, Salvia e Limone liqueur, amber vermouth and grapefruit juice. All proceeds from Tiger Tiger sales will be donated to the Wild Animal Sanctuary.

Cart-Driver LoHi is located at 2239 West 30th Avenue and will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday and 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday starting January 16.
