No cap: Colfax is wigging. Businesses along the city's most iconic avenue are feeling the pain of the infrastructure improvements necessary to make the Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line a reality, and the construction destruction is undeniable. Want to help our beloved bars and restaurants keep the lights on through Denver's version of The Big Dig? Come out this Saturday to the Bigwigs on Colfax Bar Crawl, which promises "wild wigs, bold sips and big fun" at five spots along the "longest, wickedest street in America."

"It's important that our community knows that the BRT construction project has made an impact on our businesses, especially in the food and beverage sector," says Denon Moore, business support director for the Colfax Ave Business Improvement District. "Our goal at the BID is to put together events that are fun and engaging and bring people down to the businesses, whether it's food and beverage or retail, just to show support and hopefully help get them through the next few months of BRT construction."

For the low, low price of ten dollars and any wig you can snatch and put on your head, crawl attendees will enjoy drink specials and camaraderie while making their bewigged way along Colfax. The festivities begin on Saturday at 4 p.m., kicking off at the historic Squire Lounge,1800 East Colfax. Drink specials include $10 Bionic Beavers, a large-format, questionable decisions-inducing mix of booze and mixers, along with a beer and shot combo for $7 with your choice of Coors, High Life or Tecate sidecarred with a shot of Jameson, Espolon or Jim Beam. (Speaking of questionable decisions, rumor has it that the Squire's photobooth has seen more action than a Whitesnake tour bus. Get your wigged self in there and make Colfax proud.)

At 5 p.m., the fun proceeds to Pete's Satire Lounge (1920 East Colfax), where you should definitely eat at least one order of Liz's Green Chile Tater Tots while downing The Deal Closer (a spicy margarita) for $8 or Colfax Crowns for only $6. Drink some water while you're at it ... keeping that wig straight requires proper hydration. When the clock strikes six, the hair will hie to Lion's Lair (2022 East Colfax), which has played host to indie and punk legends like X's John Doe and the Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra. Drink specials are TBD, but a good time is guaranteed.

Seven already? Cross the street to DNVR (2239 East Colfax), where yes, you should probably eat a little more to soak up that booze. Fortunately, wings are just $1.25 each when ordering five or more, and specials include $3 well drinks and $3 Miller Lite drafts. You can also celebrate Pride with the Gold Rush Rainbow, a colorful and tasty layered shot of vodka, Blue Curacao, orange juice and grenadine.

Well, will you look at the time: Eight o'clock already, and it's back across the street for the last call of the crawl, at Bar Max (2412 East Colfax). Drink specials are still TBD, but you can never go wrong with its choose-your-own cocktail adventures ... perfect for pairing with the "fancy grilled cheese" featuring brie, Colby jack, fig jam and prosciutto.

Well done, wiglets — another successful crawl supporting our favorite street, one snootful at a time. (Get your tickets here; see ya Saturday!)
